Great Service & Great Clients

Last Saturday we delivered a clients area rugs back to her. We had cleaned them all and did machine binding on one. She was so happy with our service that she wrote blog post about it.

She found Luv-A-Rug through my blog, which is awesome in itself. It just goes to show how having a strong Internet presence helps your business.

For me personally it makes e feel good knowing that my blog helps Luv-A-Rug and that people enjoy reading it.

Here is the link to her fantastic testimonial

To all the business people who write blogs and are getting discouraged that they are wasting their time:

I know how it feels to pour your sweat into blog posts and feel like it useless. I also know that people do read my blog and it adds a human touch to your website.

Not everyone who reads my blog leaves comments, but most do let me know that they do read it, especially when they call Luv-A-Rug and they get to talk to the actual author.

Keep pouring your heart out in your blog. It is worth it!

Think Enviromentally, not Cheaply

I need to start making notes when I get a blog topic idea, because I know that I had some good ideas earlier this week and now they are gone, gone like the wind. Now I draw a blank as to what to write about. Besides me not feeling well yet again, there isn't much else going on. Area rugs come in dirty and go home clean!

I have touched on this in previous blogs, but I feel it is worth talking about again.

The scenario is that you go to your favorite home decor store and buy a rug that was on sale. A few weeks or months later something gets spilled on it or your four legged friend decides the rug is a good pit stop and it is time to get it cleaned. You start calling around to see how much to clean your area rug. You are a bit shocked that it will cost almost as much as you paid for the area rug to get it cleaned. It happens a lot especially with stores having such great sales lately.

In these uncertain economical times it is hard to justify spending $200.00 to $300.00 on area rug cleaning, especially if that is what you paid for your area rug. However it isn't like you are getting your rug cleaned all the time. About once a year is sufficient, unless you have children and/or pets, then twice a year is recommended. Having a dirty area rug in your home does more harm than good. Think about it this way you walk on the rug everyday, and everyday it is collecting dust, allergens, pet dander, food crumbs. All the stuff that floats around in the air gets into your rug and an area rug can hold a lot of dirt, sometimes 2/3 of it weight, before it looks dirty, minus the spills. All of that hidden dirt is slowly wearing away the fibers of your
rug and can make it look worn and old after just a few years.

It may seem like a lot of money to pay at once, but if you through the rug away and buy a new one that isn't good for the environment. Most area rugs don't break down and go away. Plus are you going to keep doing that every time your rug gets dirty?

The other concern lately is what chemicals do we use to clean with. At Luv-A-Rug we use soap and warm water. The products that most of us use in our homes are more harmful that what we use. The whole 'green clean' is more a of gimmick it seems than actual action. All you have to do is watch the commercials on TV and everything is more powerful! and disposable.

We never know what is in the cleaners and sprays we use at home because they don't have to put an ingredients list on the bottle. Luv-A-Rug uses very safe and clean products to make your area rugs very clean and healthy.

That is my rant today. Thanks for reading, RugloverMary.

Rug Cleaning and Snow=Oil and Water

I have not been in the mood to write a blog at all. I have had too much on my mind to be able to concentrate on work let alone writing a blog. I think this is the worst December I have had. A bunch of my friends are also experiencing a unfortunate month. I am not going to write about why I am having a bad month because it has nothing to do with work and it cannot be changed. I have conceded that it is just how it goes. I was really happy on the weekend though because it snowed! Yes SNOW in Victoria, BC. It has been darn cold all weekend though, but the sun has been shining. That is what I love about snow, after it snows the sun usually shines, unlike after it rains where it is grey and gloomy.

My poor little five pound Chihuahua, Texas, isn't happy about the snow. He isn't built for cold, wet snow, poor thing. Even with his sweater on he wasn't very warm. Whenever it was time to go outside I had to carry him where there was snow and put him down where the path was bare.
He got really unhappy about the snow yesterday that when he went outside he started yelping like he was hurt. He wasn't hurt he just didn't want to be in the snow.
Whereas my Jack Russell, Daisey, who hates the rain, loves the snow. She will run around like she is crazy, chase snowballs, and dig around in it. It is very cute. When the snow is deeper than she is tall she will jump through it like a rabbit. Okay enough about my dogs back to area rugs.

Saturday was a good day at Luv-A-Rug, we got around twenty area rugs for cleaning. It was a nice steady day of clients dropping off and a few picking up. They were fortunate enough to get here before the snow started falling. It started snowing around 7pm at my house and didn't stop until early Sunday morning, I think around 2am because I don't remember it snowing when I got home.

The downside of the snow is that the water pipes at the cleaning shop froze, so we couldn't clean any area rugs today. We are fixing the problem, but the cold snap is putting a kink in everything. It is one of those unexpected things that you just have to grin and deal with it. We are doing what we can and will be making sure our clients don't have a bare floor for the holidays. Too bad we can't clean the area rugs using the snow. I have heard of it being done, but I don't think it will be a technique that Luv-A-Rug will use.

I would have liked to have included a picture of the snow in today's blog, but I didn't take any on the weekend. I thought about taking a picture today, but it wouldn't look great with all the snow beaten down and looking brown from the traffic. I may get another chance to take some pictures of good, clean, undisturbed snow, I just heard that we maybe getting more snow. I am happy about it, but drivers and business owners are not, hey just chalk it up to it being a bad December 2008! LOL!
